You’ve just acquired the second Bossacucanova album, and we’d like to tell you a couple things on how it was made. We recorded onto a hard drive, but the live room ambiance was achieved through very old reverb systems and captured by microphones (no effects). This sonic kaleidoscope incorporates modern techniques and some of the recording industry’s most obscure secrets allied to harmonic elements coming from vinyl grooves. This is how we create the singular BCN sound. To fully enjoy it, crank your amp & PLAY IT LOUD!!! BCN
Suddenly I, an original ‘bossa novista’, saw myself surrounded by three kids (a bassist, a keyboardist and a DJ) to record an album!... “Bossa nova with DJ??” wondered a good friend of mine, a radical lover of bossa nova. I didn’t pay much attention to my friend’s comment and decided to embark in the project with Bossacucanova. From the beginning, the four of us agreed that the studio would be a ‘democratic republic’ where information would flow freely without preconceived notions. When our sound engineer pressed the REC button for the first time, I started to discover a new world in music, the world of beats, BPM’s, loops and samples, while I was speaking about chords, notes, melodies and interesting ways for the harmony to flow. But the guys were extremely excited to hear what I had to say. From this ‘blender’ of musical experiences came out a very cool album: good to spin, good to dance to and good to hear. It is great to see that bossa nova can be rejuvenated, this makes it eternal.
